FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Commonly asked questions and answers

Will Pure Hardscapes assist in choosing the style of paver that is best for us?

Yes! For years we have assisted our customers in choosing colors, and styles of pavers that will complement their home best. In addition, we offer full designs if needed with state-of-the-art technology.

How do I prevent weeds from growing between the paver joints?

Pavers installed correctly should NEVER grow weeds from below. Proper installation requires a minimum of 4” to 6” of heavily compacted base material, thus preventing any undesired growth from below. Sometimes, weeds can grow within the TOP layer of the joint sand. This happens when seeds or spores lodge in the joints between pavers.

A remedy for minor weed growth is a weed killer from any hardware or gardening store. This is acceptable for spot treatment only. If weed growth extends throughout multiple joints, you may wish to seek consultation from a professional.

Are pavers better than concrete?

Pavers are known to last longer than concrete. This is due to their flexibility when surrounding soils naturally settle. With proper installation we use a heavy-duty plate compactor. Using this tool allows for proper compaction and eliminates future settling as much as possible. Conversely, concrete does not offer the same flexibility. Concrete is notorious for hairline cracks due to soil settlement. Over time as more settling occurs, the cracks become larger. This causes more potential issues as well as cosmetic unsightliness.

From a design perspective, pavers have a multitude of style and color options. This creates a polished, unique design, distinguishing yourself from neighbors. As stamped concrete becomes increasingly popular, there are less style options available. Stamped concrete has the same cracking problems, only it is more visible, thus making it even more unattractive. If you choose concrete, please keep in mind cracking WILL occur no matter what!

What is the “whiteish haze on top of my new pavers”

This is called efflorescence. This comes from the pavers themselves and has nothing to do with installation. There is no way to prevent this, as it is a natural occurrence. This comes from minerals found inside the pavers. Fortunately, it is only temporary and usually has no long-lasting effect.

Will you damage my yard during the construction process?

The construction process has many moving parts including but not limited to: excavation, moving bulk materials, gravel, sand, medium to large machinery, many pallets of pavers, and materials weighing thousands of pounds. Our years of experience allow us to be very efficient and organized throughout this process. Organization is extremely important to us, as we go through the steps needed to complete the work.

At Pure Hardscapes, it is our mission to plan for every possible detail from start to finish. This includes anything needed to ensure it looks as if “we were never there”. Remember, our process can also be controlled by HOA procedures. This can potentially dictate where we can stage materials, etc. Questions concerning stages of materials and development can also be assessed throughout.

Do I need to apply with the HOA of my community?

Most communities with an active HOA may require an application process to seek approval of our work. Pure Hardscapes is familiar with these processes and requirements. Every HOA has different guidelines and restrictions. If you are in a community that has an HOA we will assist as much as possible throughout your application process.

Should I seal my new pavers?

Pure Hardscapes always recommends sealing your new pavers. Using a quality sealer will enhance the look by bringing out the colors in all the pavers. It also helps protect your pavers from fading and staining. Sealing does not necessarily improve the structure or longevity of the pavers. However, it is always highly recommended.

Can I install 1-inch-thick pavers over my existing concrete driveway?

Paver overlays can be a cost-effective way to enhance existing concrete as long as the concrete is in good shape. We only recommend paver overlays on surfaces that DO NOT support vehicular traffic or heavy foot traffic. Paver overlays can be a good solution for walkways and patios.

Are porcelain pavers slip resistant?

Pure Hardscapes only installs porcelain pavers from Hardscape.com as we believe they are superior in quality. All porcelain pavers from Hardscape.com are slip resistant.

Will porcelain pavers crack?

Hardscape.com 3cm vehicular porcelain pavers features an incredible 55,000 PSI giving them incredible strength over time. If installed properly, the pavers will not crack.
